A Romantic Gesture in Sweden

In Gotland, Sweden, an extraordinary project has transformed a 21-hectare wetland into a heartfelt message of love. Since 2007, Lars and Ann-Marie Jacobi have dedicated their land at Torsburgen to nature conservation, creating a wetland that features three uniquely shaped islands: the letters ‘L’, a heart, and ‘A’.

The project began as a labor of love. Lars Jacobi wanted to give his wife something unforgettable for their 50th wedding anniversary, and the islands’ shapes were designed as a personal message.

Although the Jacobi family initially intended this to remain private, the unique shapes and their backstory have captured public attention on Google Maps.
